Featuring Beethoven's Piano Trio in Bb, Op. 97 ("Archduke") & Schumann's Piano Quartet in Eb, Op. 47

Somerset Trio invites you for a second performance of two monumental chamber works of the Romantic Era. Come and experience the beauty and passion in Beethoven's majestic Piano Trio in B-Flat, Op. 97 ("Archduke") and Schumann's stunning Piano Quartet in E-Flat, Op. 47 -- you will not want to miss this live concert! We welcome all music lovers to join us for this special performance. With Alana Lopez (violin), Ben Goheen (cello), David Antoniuk (piano) and special guest Tawnya Popoff (viola).

Tickets are by donation and must be done so in advance as payments will not take place on-site. Please consider a minimum of $20 per adult and $10 per child.

About Us


Since forming in 2016, Somerset Trio has been creating musical experiences that are refreshingly unique.
The trio combines music of a range of eras and genres, from pillars of the classical canon to original arrangements of today's popular tunes. A notable emphasis of the ensemble is their attention to detail in carefully crafting each program to include something for listeners of all ages and backgrounds. Their ability to provide new contexts for the works they perform makes the music not only accessible, but fresh and exciting!


Somerset Trio

Alana Lopez

Violin

Alana obtained her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of British Columbia in 2007. She studied with Andrew Dawes, Jasper Wood and Nancy DiNovo. Alana is passionate about small ensemble and orchestral performance, and has worked with many of the leading talents in Canada. Alana has performed on stage with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and is a core member of the Vancouver Island Symphony. She is also a dedicated violin teacher who hopes to impact the next generation of musicians. Currently she performs across the Lower Mainland, and enjoys bringing chamber music back to its more intimate home setting.

Ben Goheen

Cello

Ben holds his Masters degree in Cello Performance from the University of British Columbia, where he studied with Eric Wilson. Since moving to BC from Ontario, he has enjoyed performing with several symphonies and ensembles, including: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, and Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. He is also an active chamber musician and loves performing with a variety of smaller chamber ensembles throughout the Lower Mainland, including the Rose Gellert String Quartet (Langley Community Music School's quartet-in-residence). In addition to performing, Ben is also the conductor of Surrey Symphony Society's Intermediate Orchestra, and enjoys a full schedule of cello students throughout the week. When he's not teaching or performing, he loves spending time with his wife and three kids.

David Antoniuk

Piano

David holds a degree in Piano Performance from Trinity Western University, where he studied with Betty Suderman and Kathryn Schmidt. He has worked as an instructor for the TWU music department, where he taught music theory and ear training, and also has extensive experience working as an accompanist for many local choirs and vocalists, in addition to performing as a solo pianist and teaching private lessons. He has toured internationally with the TWU choirs, performed as a musician for Holland America Cruise Line, and has appeared as a guest soloist with local orchestras in the Lower Mainland. David especially enjoys learning new music, improvisation, collaborating with other musicians, arranging, and composing, and currently lives in Vancouver with his wife Lauren.
